In today's world the urban markets are getting more saturated for several goods and according to marketing experts the income of rural consumers increasing and thinking level is shifting focus from urban to rural market. The Indian rural market has a huge demand and has great opportunity to the marketers. According to the India's premier economic research entity, rural income is keeping pace with incomes. 'Go Rural' is the slogan of marketing gurus after analyzing socio-economic changes are become the prime target for the most of the goods. Rural consumers are spread over approximately 600000 villages in rural India.
The rural economy has not been impacted by the global economic slowdown. The study found that the rural and small town economy which accounts for 60% of India's income has remained unaffected from the economic slowdown. Moreover, rural incomes are on the rise due to growth in agriculture for consecutive years, though the agriculture is been affected due climatic changes but it is one of the sector from where India earns huge amount of money, according to the recent study by the Rural Marketing Association of India (RMAI). It contributes 17.5% to India's GDP, according to the Wikipedia.
It is found that rural consumer is not more quality or brand conscious generally rural consumer is price conscious. Generally rural consumer buy small packs because they are price conscious and they want value for money which they have spend on particular good. Companies have started selling the concept of quality and low price with the proper communication. The main focus towards such activity is to change the rural consumer perspective over quality. The main problem of dealing with rural consumer is language. So companies are taking initiatives and promoting their products in the local language.
